Corrosion Mitigation
SRI's Fracture Mechanics team has developed a technology for proactively managing
corrosion degradation of equipment and facilities. The corrosion mitigation
technology, which incorporates SRI advances in electrochemistry of corrosion,
corrosion kinetics, radiolysis effects, and metallurgy, has been validated by
comparative field data from operating nuclear reactors.
Advantage
SRI's corrosion mitigation technology can be used to extend the life span of
costly, large-scale equipment, reactor vessels, turbines, boilers, and other
major components operating in aggressive environments. Use of the technology can
also lower operation costs by incorporating more cost-effective, performance-
based maintenance schedules and by giving advance warning of corrosion-induced malfunctions. SRI technology
is superior to others because our corrosion models realize the time-dependent aspects of corrosion.
SRI's team will provide on-site training and customization of its software and hardware solution.
Opportunity
SRI's corrosion mitigation technology has applications to many systems:
- Power plants (nuclear and fossil)
- Reinforced concrete bridges
- Oil and gas production, transportation, and refining facilities
- Aircraft
- Desaltination plants
- Boilers
- Off-shore platforms.
