Biomorphic Drugs of the Future: Triphosphate Analogs

SRI's Chemical and Engineering Processes team has created a group of new compounds that mimic phosphate, a central component of energy metabolism and nucleic acid synthesis in all living cells. These biomorphs can be incorporated into nearly every type of pharmaceuticals, from antiviral and antibacterial to metabolic interrupters, to treat a wide range of disease and disorders.

These biomorphic drugs grew out of SRI's experience in designing novel materials. Our teams have constructed new molecular systems with the appropriate size, shape, and stability for use as the basis for new classes of drugs.

Advantage
A mimic, or biomorph, of phosphate enables direct interaction with metabolic pathways for better disease control. The increased serum half-life of these biomorphs increases bioavailability and prolongs the activity of the drug. Cancer is among the many diseases that will likely be treated with the new drugs.

Opportunity
SRI is open to discussing possible collaborations to further develop, test, and market these phosphate and triphosphate analogs.
