SRI International, a SeaPort™ Enhanced (SeaPort-e) prime contractor, is an independent, nonprofit, non-endowed corporation chartered by the State of California. Founded in 1946 as the Stanford Research Institute, in 1970 SRI became independent of Stanford University and in 1977 changed its name to SRI International.

SRI performs client-sponsored research and development (R&D) for business, government, and foundations in the U.S. and abroad. SRI research is conducted through several main business units offering programs in engineering technologies and systems, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, chemistry and physics, advanced materials, computing and information sciences, environmental and atmospheric sciences, education, health sciences, and economic development.

In conducting research activities, SRI often develops and tests special-purpose or prototype products and systems. In conformance with its charter, SRI does not compete with industry in either small- or large-scale production or manufacturing of devices or systems. Thus, SRI can provide objective, unbiased systems design, assessment, analysis, and integration capabilities. Further, SRI regularly teams with partners, including small and disadvantaged businesses, to provide the best solution and team to our clients.

In addition to its main facility in Menlo Park, California (SeaPort Zone 6), SRI has research staff and facilities in San Luis Obispo, California (Zone 6); Rosslyn, Virginia (Zone 2); Lexington Park, Maryland (Zone 2); Harrisonburg, Virginia (Zone 2); State College, Pennsylvania (Zone 1); Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey (Zone 1); St. Petersburg, Florida (Zone 4); and Orlando, Florida (Zone 4).
