For the Korea Foundation for International Cooperation of Science & Technology (KICOS), SRI organized a two-week workshop for officials from government research institutes to focus on international collaboration in science and technology (ICST), forming agreements at the diplomatic level, learning about agents that conduct collaboration, and likely subjects for collaboration.
Questions addressed at the workshop included:
- What are the dynamics of international collaboration in science and technology?
- What is the potential for Korea to participate more fully in ICST?
- How can Korea strategically increase its participation in international science in a way that makes most efficient use of its own resources and the benefits potentially provided by cooperating?
These questions were addressed by examining ICST in a broad sense, exploring Korea’s current and potential roles in international cooperation in the future, and offering recommendations for broader participation. Selected officials from International Cooperation offices of several government research institutes under the Ministry of Science and Technology attended the workshop.
