GreatSchools hired SRI to conduct a rigorous independent evaluation of its College Bound program. Available in Spanish and English, College Bound combines video-based lessons with social networking and coaching to help parents become effective partners in their children's K -12 schooling and raise college-ready high school graduates. The purpose of this evaluation was twofold:
-
To support the development and refinement of the College Bound content, coaching, and community-building processes
-
To assess the impact of participation in College Bound on parents' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors
SRI used a logic model approach to assess the implementation and outcomes of College Bound. The formative evaluation drew on reviews of program materials; interviews with participating parent and College Bound staff members; web analytics (i.e., an analysis of usage patterns on the College Bound website); and surveys of parents. For the summative evaluation, a longitudinal delayed-start randomized controlled trial involving repeated parent surveys and web analytics was used to measure impact on parents.
