Senior Software Engineer, Robotic Systems
Bruce Knoth leads teams of engineers and scientists in developing new hardware and software in the fields of robotics and medical technologies, both for government and commercial clients.
Knoth's experience encompasses software development for robotics and medical devices, management of technical development teams, FDA regulatory processes, and applications of speech analytics to mental health care. Since joining SRI in 1999, Knoth has contributed to many successful efforts at SRI. He has led development of software for the Taurus telemanipulation system and served as principal investigator for National Library of Medicine-funded research in the application of machine learning to depression-care guidance for clinicians. He has managed projects focused on the development of objective speech-related measures for assessment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), imminent suicide risk, and depression, contributed to the regulatory planning for SRI’s biodosimeter project, contributed extensively to the software development for the SRI’s Trauma Pod surgical robotic proof-of-concept system, and managed various government and commercial research and development projects.
Prior to joining SRI, Knoth led software development for a cutting-edge hearing test system, developed software for a signal measurement system for neurosurgeons, and also developed software for gait- and balance-measurement systems.
He has a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and a M.S. in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
