Peptide Biochemist, Macromolecular Sciences

Kalyani Jambunathan, Ph.D., has research interest that is focused on novel and collaborative application of fluorescence-based CombiFluor™ technology platform for proteolytic enzyme based biomarker discovery, with potential for therapeutic and diagnostic development.

Her current efforts focus on identifying proteolytic biomarkers for lung diseases such as Invasive aspergillosis, sarcoidosis, and nephrotic condition of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis in clinical samples such as serum, plasma and lung fluid. She is also focusing her efforts in identification of peptide substrates for medically relevant proteolytic enzymes belonging to prolyl Oligopeptidase family, which are implicated in numerous diseases ranging from Alzheimer’s disease to diabetes to cancer.

Jambunathan joined SRI Biosciences as a post-doctoral fellow in 2010 and has worked extensively to optimize the fluorescence-based technology platform for proteolytic enzyme based biomarker discovery. Her other areas of specialization include peptide science, molecular biology, and assay design and development.

Jambunathan earned her Ph.D. in chemistry from University of Virginia, Charlottesville and completed her postdoctoral training at both University of Virginia and SRI International.
