Bing-Bing Chai, Ph.D., is responsible for project management on technology initiatives including computer vision, image and video compression and processing, and multimedia applications.
Chai manages all aspects of research and development projects funded by various government agencies, commercial companies, as well as internal development projects. Aside from working with the technical team to ensure project success, she also manages client and vendors relationships, subcontractors and consultants. In addition to R&D project management, she also drives the transition effort from R&D to fielded prototypes.
Prior to becoming a program manager, Chai was a member of the technical staff. Her research and development expertise spans computer vision, image and video compression, image processing and pattern recognition. Chai was a contributor to MPEG-4 and JPEG 2000 image and video compression standards development. She has co-authored more than 20 publications, and holds eight U.S. patents.
Before joining SRI in 1997, Chai was a research assistant at the University of Missouri – Columbia where her work included the development of a significant wavelet image compression algorithm.
Chai is a Project Management Institute certified Project Management Professional (PMP). She received her Ph.D. in computer engineering and her M.S. in medical physics from the University of Missouri – Columbia and her B.S. in physics from Peking University.
