Principal Software Engineer, Center for Software Engineering
Michael Frandsen designs and develops software, graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and algorithms for SRI speech technologies. He works on software for DynaSpeak® speech recognition and SenSay Analytics™ speaker state classification, with a focus on engines for speech recognition and emotion analytics. His work also includes core product development, proof-of-concept development, product steering, client liaison, and tight collaboration with SRI spin-offs.
Frandsen previously worked on software development and integration for DARPA S2S and Broad Operational Language Translation software, including UI and component integration for speech-to-speech translation between English and African French on Android, as well as English and Iraqi Arabic on laptop. He has developed multiple Android GUIs for language learning games, speech recognition, pronunciation scoring, and audio data collection.
He holds an M.S. in computer science from Montana State University, Bozeman and B.S. degrees in mathematics and physics from Montana State University, Bozeman. He has five patents and is co-author of several publications.
