Senior Research Engineer, Signals and Space Technology Laboratory
Samson Phan, Ph.D., specializes in developing proof of concept systems using rapid prototyping techniques that require both software and hardware expertise.
In his role at SRI, Phan develops next generation miniature satellites (CubeSats). His most recent project led to the development of a state-of-the-art Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) instrument, which is a compact radar system developed to generate high resolution remote sensing imagery from small satellite and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) platforms.
Phan is a senior member of the American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics, where he serves on the Space Automation and Robotics Technical Committee.
Phan holds a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in aeronautics and astronautics from Stanford University, and a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles.
