Case Study Polish National Center for Research and Development
Converting groundbreaking research into practical applications starts with effective management
Enabling research and development professionals to extract more value from breakthrough research
The Challenge
Effective management is at the heart of successfully turning research investments into innovation. In order to maintain a competitive edge in today’s global economy, the national government of Poland needed to implement a strategic and comprehensive program approach for managing, assessing, and applying their investments in research to innovative solutions for future economic and social growth.
The Outcome
With guidance from SRI International, the Polish National Center for Research and Development developed new R&D program management processes to streamline the process of deriving practical applications from groundbreaking research. This enabled the Polish National Center for Research and Development to commercialize research findings and build a community of risk-taking scientists and entrepreneurs that are on the cutting edge of innovation.

To help the Polish National Center for Research and Development, SRI assembled a multi-disciplinary team of innovation specialists and scientists that have experience managing and performing high-risk, high reward research.
This team assessed the research needs and capabilities of the national innovation ecosystem, and through a detailed analysis and a series of workshops, developed a cohesive vision statement, mission and organizational framework for the client.
In order to put this plan into action, the Polish National Center for Research and Development staff underwent extensive training, obtained mentorship from SRI experts, and also had a new handbook created for them. The mentorship from SRI supported Poland’s e-mobility research program in the area of zero-emission transportation and hydrogen storage.
