Microcircuit Emulation

Extending the lifetime of mission-critical systems often means needing microcircuits that are no longer manufactured. This can present serious logistical issues, especially for the military.

SRI’s Generalized Emulation of Microcircuits (GEM) program uses modern technology to design and manufacture form, fit, function and interface replacements for obsolete microcircuits. Utilizing our on-site, MIL-PRF-38535 QML-certified, wafer fabrication facility SRI has developed a variety of specialized processes and design approaches that provide quick-turn, low-volume, military-quality microcircuits. Through GEM and the related Advanced Microcircuit Emulation (AME) program, SRI partners with the Defense Logistics Agency to offer flexible technology that can be used during any phase of a weapon system's life cycle.

Use of replacement parts offered through the GEM program means that production shutdowns can be averted, operation costs can be decreased, and system integrity can be maintained.

Using onsite design, test, and foundry capabilities, the GEM program has met all requirements for placement on the Qualified Manufacturers List, manufactures military-quality replacements for non-procurable microcircuits, and provides support for production, redesign, and sustainment requirements for the life of the system.
