Developmental Study of the National Writing Project’s SEED Science Writing Inquiry
SRI is investigating the development of good evidence-based science writing in the middle school classroom.
In partnership with the National Writing Project (NWP), SRI is investigating what constitutes good evidence-based science writing in the middle school classroom, what assignments and instructional strategies elicit it, and what kinds of professional learning experiences support its instruction.
SRI is working with approximately 30 teachers in five Local Writing Project sites who are participating in the NWP’s SEED Science Writing Inquiry professional development program. Data collection and analysis address instructional artifacts, teacher surveys and interviews, and classroom and teacher research group observations.
The NWP will use the study feedback to refine its support of local writing project sites in evidence-based science writing.
