Denise Mauzy, MSW, LCSW, PMP, has more than 20 years of experience developing and managing projects and providing technical assistance related to early childhood and data systems. She has expertise in strategic planning for human service organizations, data governance of administrative data systems, comprehensive state early childhood systems, early childhood workforce development, national and state early childhood policy, and project development and implementation for early childhood quality initiatives.
At SRI, Mauzy has served in a continuum of roles to lead, manage, and substantively support federal and state initiatives. At the federal level, she has designed and delivered dynamic and innovative technical assistance to build staff capacity in developing and implementing policy for systems change. She has also delivered national technical assistance to promote data-informed decision-making and evidence-based practices so that all children and families have access to high-quality learning environments and experiences. At the state level, she has directed an early childhood professional development initiative and led a state quality rating and improvement system, trainer approval system, professional registry, professional standards development, and early childhood integrated data efforts.
Currently, Mauzy leads a research and technical assistance project for the state of Minnesota to develop an early childhood workforce wage scale. Previously, Mauzy led the Administration for Children and Families’ (ACF’s) Data Governance Consulting and Support Project. In this role, she oversaw a team that provided information-gathering, analysis, consultation, and technical support to the Office of Research, Planning, and Evaluation and its partners to strengthen data governance practices within ACF offices as well as between ACF and its federal, state, local, and Tribal partners. Mauzy also served as the technical assistance lead for the National Technical Assistance Center for Preschool Development Grants Birth Through Five (PDG B-5), where she provided subject matter expertise and delivered direct and responsive technical assistance on workforce development, data and data systems, and program quality. Additionally, Mauzy provided technical assistance for the Center for IDEA Early Childhood Data Systems (DaSy), supporting state early intervention and preschool special education data governance, data management, and data linking efforts.
Prior to joining SRI, Mauzy was a technical assistance provider for multiple national projects, including the National Center for Early Childhood Development, Teaching, and Learning and the Race to the Top Early Learning Technical Assistance Project. She led Missouri’s early childhood career development initiative for over 13 years and was an adjunct instructor teaching child advocacy to early childhood and education undergraduates.
Within the community, Mauzy is a passionate advocate for young children and their families. She is a court appointed special advocate (CASA) and has a long history of board service for the National Workforce Registry Alliance and her state and local early childhood professional associations.
Mauzy holds a master of social work degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia and is a licensed clinical social worker. She is also a certified project management professional.
