Work-life balance:
Here’s how we help you find it
From internships and fellowships for students at all levels, to employee resource groups that empower our family of co-workers, SRI is dedicated to pursuing programming for people in all stages of their careers. We operate from a place of respect, belonging, and access to resources that will enable you to achieve success.
“One of the things that’s special about SRI is that we genuinely value creativity — new ways of thinking about problems. We’re looking for people who want to make a difference in the world, can see things from a different perspective, and can work ahead of the curve to solve problems.”

Employee Resource Groups
Our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are employee identity or experience-based groups that are inclusive and welcoming to all. They’re just one of the many initiatives at SRI designed to help foster a sense of community and belonging throughout the institute.
A network of Black professionals and allies, Black@SRI fosters an inclusive, supportive workplace environment through empowerment, mentorship, collaboration, and celebration of Black employees’ diverse experiences and contributions. We create a sense of belonging, promote professional growth, and advocate for equity and equality by encouraging all SRI employees to hold a safe space for networking and allyship.
The mission of the Parents & Caregivers of Children (PaCC) is to provide SRI parents and caregivers of children with confidence, resources, and knowledge to help balance their work and family. Through education, collaboration, and advocacy, we strive to make working parents and caregivers of children feel supported which will contribute to the retention and attraction of working parents and caregivers of children at SRI.
Advocating to make SRI a preferred workplace for current and future team members from the LGBTQ+ community, Prism is creating a welcoming, fair, and safe community while raising awareness of the value of full inclusion and authenticity. We provide an open social and networking forum for LGBTQ+ team members and allies, and we give back to our local communities to empower diversity, equity, and inclusion from the inside out.
The Women in Business (WIB) employee resource group was created to provide a peer support and mentorship program, improve the pipeline of gender diverse talent through outreach; and promote organizational inclusion of women in business process and decision making for those in business, financial, foundational function, and strategic function roles across the company.
A network of SRI women, the Women in STEM Employee Resource Group (WISE) works to improve gender diversity by creating pipelines to emerging female talent. We support and advocate for one another, foster a positive professional culture, and provide a space for sharing knowledge, encouraging mentorship and sponsoring events that promote inclusion.

Internships
SRI enriches the science and technology community by training and mentoring undergraduate and graduate student interns. Our internship participants experience a broad spectrum of activities from learning how to write grant proposals and client reports to articulating ideas and conducting hands-on research.
Student interns have opportunities to present their work, attend seminars and engage with their peers. Students benefit from having an assigned advisor and from working in an environment that includes some of the R&D community’s most innovative contributors.
Specific to undergraduates, SRI participates in the National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program. The REU program provides opportunities for outstanding undergraduates to participate in research at SRI and benefit from the collegial atmosphere of collaboration and communication among all members of their laboratory.
All interns must have current full-time undergraduate or graduate student status at an accredited college institution, plus unrestricted authorization to work in the United States. Positions are designed to supplement education and career direction. Job duties are tied to a specific project and training is provided in parallel to the classroom curriculum.
Postdoctoral fellowships
SRI enriches the science and technology community by shaping postdoctoral students into professional researchers. Postdoctoral fellowship positions are available to U.S. and non-U.S. citizens of high scientific and scholastic achievement who have recently received their doctoral degrees and want to continue their research and training under the guidance of a senior SRI staff member.
Postdoctoral positions are usually for a one-year period and may be extended by mutual agreement in one-year increments for a second or third year (completion of the period is not obligatory for either party). In many cases, postdoctoral fellows at SRI have the opportunity to become career researchers or scientists. SRI provides full benefits to our postdoctoral fellows, and relocation assistance is provided.

“SRI is an amazing place. We’re always years ahead of everyone else. And one of the reasons I’ve stayed so long, and the reason I think others enjoy working here, is because you’re not put in a box — if you see a gap, go fill it. If you can help, go help.”
