History is important in science. A quote attributed to the first century C.E. Roman historian Tacitus describes the principal office of history: “to prevent virtuous actions from being forgotten, and that evil words and deeds should fear an infamous reputation with posterity”. The article in the present issue by Basner  helps to ensure the “virtuous actions” and careful insightful science of Ernst Otto Heinrich Kohlschütter will not be forgotten.
