Abstract

This paper describes the application of a novel hydrodynamic separation method for continuous flow recovery of magnetic particles from ferrofluids and MR fluids. A magnetic field is used to enhance the separation performance by pinning the separated band prior to extraction through the concentrate outlet. The behavior of the magnetic band of particles is simulated using a hybrid particle simulation algorithm involving the BIEM for field computation and dynamic particle tracking.
