Issue Brief: Early Warning Systems
U.S. Department of Education. (2016). Issue Brief 1: Early Warning Systems. Washington, DC: Office of Planning, Evaluation and Policy Development, Policy and Program Studies Service.
The brief describes early warning systems as a dropout prevention strategy based on a nationally representative sample of more than 2,000 U.S. public high schools. Early warning systems are designed to use student data to identify students who exhibit behavior or academic performance that puts them at risk of dropping out of school. These systems help districts and schools pinpoint student achievement patterns and school climate issues that may contribute to students dropping out of school.
