Abstract

The objective of drug formulation is to develop a product with the correct amount of drug in the right form, and to maintain its chemical and biological integrity for delivery at or over the proper time, at the proper rate, and in the desired location. SRI International’s approach to drug formulation is customized according to the client’s needs and the stage of development. This article by Gita Shankar, PhD, Director of Formulations R&D, Pharmaceutical Sciences at SRI, describes the strategy that the company uses to develop an appropriate formulation.
