SRI’s Nine IEEE Milestones

Each of these Milestones honors transformative technologies that are embedded in the fabric of every one of our lives.

SRI is the proud custodian of nine IEEE Milestones: Inception of the ARPANET, Shakey the Robot, the Mother of all Demos, Color TV, Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs), the TIROS I Weather Satellite, Alto personal computing, Ethernet, and the Laser Printer.

SRI celebrates these Milestones and is proud to accelerate the science and technology that people use every day. Technologies that are deeply intertwined into our daily lives often go unnoticed and most people don’t realize that these inventions were created decades ago —right here in our own backyard.
