The new venture program, focused on plasma science, will join an innovation ecosystem where SRI is advancing AI, quantum, photonics, and other next-generation technologies.

SRI’s Princeton, New Jersey, campus has been chosen as the headquarters for HAX Plasma Forge, bringing a new deep-tech venture program to one of the region’s most distinctive environments for innovation.

HAX Plasma Forge is designed to help founders translate breakthroughs in plasma science into practical technologies and companies, while also providing corporate innovators with access to cutting-edge plasma R&D. The initiative is backed by $51 million in dedicated funding, including support from SOSV and the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA), with additional technical collaboration and in-kind support from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL). Together, these funders and collaborators will create new pathways from frontier science to commercial impact.

“The HAX Plasma Forge isn’t just renting space, they’re joining a lineage of innovators who specialize in turning frontier science into the bedrock of global industry. We can’t wait to see plasma become the next great chapter in that legacy.” — David Parekh

Plasma science has the potential to unlock advances across some of today’s most important technology domains, from semiconductor manufacturing and advanced materials to energy, sensing, and industrial processes. As new tools make plasma systems more controllable and scalable, the field is becoming an increasingly powerful foundation for practical innovation.

For SRI, the announcement reflects the broader momentum of its Princeton campus as a vibrant innovation space and ecosystem. The campus has long been associated with important advances in imaging, electronics, semiconductors, and television. Today, SRI is building on that foundation by creating new opportunities for cross-disciplinary research, technology transition, and engagement with entrepreneurs, industry, and public-sector collaborators.

“The HAX Plasma Forge isn’t just renting space, they’re joining a lineage of innovators who specialize in turning frontier science into the bedrock of global industry,” said SRI CEO David Parekh in the SOSV announcement of the agreement. “We can’t wait to see plasma become the next great chapter in that legacy.”

The addition of HAX Plasma Forge will further strengthen the campus as a destination for innovators working across advanced computing, energy, robotics, microcircuits, and other critical technology domains.
