Todd Grindal: Conducting policy-relevant research to support young children

A leader in education research explores how policies and programs shape young children and children with disabilities.

Children – especially younger children – have faced unprecedented challenges in education during the past few years. But gaining a better of understanding what precisely what’s happening in the classroom is a big and important challenge for educators, parents, and policy makers.

In this video, Todd Grindal, co-director of SRI’s Center for Learning and Development, discusses how observational data, video, and classroom information about coaching can help teachers — and students — thrive.

He also discusses SRI’s foundational and ongoing work to support young children with disabilities, and how his group is working with SRI’s Speech Technology and Research (STAR) Laboratory to develop and use AI and machine learning technologies to empower teachers.
