SRI’s human liver tissue bank – 1983

SRI demonstrated the use of human liver tissue to test the safety of new drugs and established a liver tissue bank as an alternative to animal testing.

The liver tissue bank was established in 1983, making it the first such facility in the world operated as a regular service.
