Unbiased discourse segmentation evaluation
We show that the performance measures Pk and Window Diff, commonly used for discourse, topic, and story segmentation evaluation, are biased in favor of segmentations with fewer or adjacent segment boundaries.

Gravity Wave Activity in the Arctic Stratosphere and Mesosphere During the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 Stratospheric Sudden Warming Events
We report Rayleigh lidar measurements of nightly temperature profiles in the 40–80 km altitude region and 30 min relative density profiles in the 40–50 km altitude region at Chatanika, Alaska (65°N, 147°W) in December, January, February, and March over two winters (2007–2008, 2008–2009).

Neurocircuitry of Emotion and Cognition in Alcoholism: Contributions from White Matter Fiber Tractography
An understanding of the role of cortico-limbic fiber degradation in emotional dysregulation in alcoholism is now emerging.
-
Unsupervised domain adaptation with multiple acoustic models
We investigate the problem of adapting a recognition system with multiple acoustic models to a new domain in unsupervised mode.

Diamino-1,2,4-Triazole Derivatives Are Selective Inhibitors of Tyk2 and Jak1 Over Jak2 and Jak3
Presented is the design and synthesis of 1,2,4-triazoles, and the evaluation of their inhibitory activity against the Janus associated kinases TYK2 and JAKs 1–3.

Spectral and Temperature Dependence of Two-Photon and Free-Carrier Absorption in InSb
The nonlinear absorption spectrum of InSb was measured using a combination of tunable ∼160 fs, ∼10 ps, and ∼150 ns IR sources along with a cryostat for controlling the sample temperature to vary the band gap energy from 0.17 to 0.23 eV.

Computational Databases, Pathway and Cheminformatics Tools for Tuberculosis Drug Discovery
Cheminformatic techniques have been leveraged and are examined in this review. We suggest that these computational approaches should be optimally integrated within a workflow with experimental approaches to accelerate TB drug discovery.

Tracking and Sketching Distributed Data Provenance
We describe a system for capturing data provenance in distributed applications, and the use of provenance sketches to optimize subsequent data provenance queries.

Captopril Increases the Intensity of Monocyte Infection By Trypanosoma Cruzi and Induces Human T Helper Type 17 Cells
Here we showed that captopril increases the intensity of T. cruzi infection of human monocytes in vitro. The increased parasitism was accompanied by up-regulated expression of ACE in human monocytes.

In Vivo MRSI of Hyperpolarized [1-13C]Pyruvate Metabolism in Rat Hepatocellular Carcinoma
We implemented a three-dimensional MRSI sequence to investigate this potential hallmark of cellular metabolism in rat livers bearing HCC (n = 7 buffalo rats).
-
An Application Framework for Loosely Coupled Networked Cyber-Physical Systems
We describe a new paradigm for programming an NCPS that enables users to specify their needs and nodes to contribute capabilities and resources.

Implementing SRI’s Pashto speech-to-speech translation system on a smartphone
We describe our recent effort implementing SRI’s UMPC-based Pashto speech-to-speech (S2S) translation system on a smart phone running the Android operating system.
