Ochoa logged nearly 1,000 hours in space, received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and was inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame.

Ellen Ochoa, the first Hispanic woman to go to space, has had a career defined by extraordinary contributions to science and exploration. She made history in 1993 on a nine-day mission on the Space Shuttle Discovery, using her expertise in optics and engineering to help advance NASA’s space programs.

In this video, Ochoa talks about her journey into space, her work at the NASA Johnson Space Center, her passion for supporting young people in STEM, and her role in helping SRI have an even greater impact.
