SRI-backed Valence AI raises $5M to integrate emotional intelligence into the trust stack

Emotional inference is becoming a new layer in digital identity and fraud-prevention systems.


    A recent article points to a shift underway in digital identity and fraud-prevention technology: emotion is emerging as a new signal alongside passwords, biometrics, and behavioral analytics.  

    The piece centers on Valence AI, a San Francisco-based company whose model listens to live calls and translates tone, pacing, and other vocal cues into structured data for contact centers, voice-AI builders, and support teams.  

    “Voice AI has gotten remarkably good at understanding what people say, but it still can’t hear how they feel: the frustration under a polite request, the hesitation before someone hangs up,” said Chloe Duckworth, co-founder and CEO of Valence AI. 

    For SRI, the investment sits at the center of that tension: real commercial and safety value in emotion-aware voice systems, paired with an open conversation about where responsible limits belong.
