AI guides healthcare workers through blood draws, intubation, and more

SRI, working with Mayo Clinic and the University of Florida, is developing an ARPA-H-funded AI system that walks healthcare workers through clinical procedures they haven’t specialized in. Right now, the system trains on several procedures, including blood draws, splinting, intubation, and blood lab work. It uses smart glasses, an overhead camera, and a tablet interface: the glasses can overlay guidance directly onto a patient (like a pink circle showing exactly where to insert a needle), and workers can ask questions and get real-time feedback.
The project is part of PARADIGM, a mobile-medical-unit initiative aimed at bringing advanced care to rural areas, including parts of New Jersey, where people lack easy access to emergency or specialist care.
