Overlapping and Distinct Molecular Determinants Dictating the Antiviral Activities of Trim56 against Flaviviruses and Coronavirus
We show that TRIM56 poses a barrier to infections by yellow fever virus (YFV), dengue virus serotype 2 (DENV2), and human coronavirus virus (HCoV) OC43 but not encephalomyocarditis virus (EMCV).

The association of injury with substance use disorder among women of reproductive age: an opportunity to address a major contributor to recurrent preventable emergency department visits?
The goals of this study were to describe and compare the prevalence of patterns of injury requiring emergency department visits and to investigate the association of specific categories of injury with type of substance used.

Curriculum Materials Make a Difference for Next Generation Science Learning: Results from Year 1 of a Randomized Controlled Trial (Updated December 2014)
In the study, middle school science teachers who used curriculum materials that presented opportunities for students to engage in science practices improved their students’ performance on next generation science assessments.

Ionospheric Sounding Using Real-Time Amateur Radio Reporting Networks
Amateur radio reporting networks, such as the Reverse Beacon Network (RBN), PSKReporter, and the Weak Signal Propagation Network, are powerful tools for remote sensing the ionosphere.

Quantitative Proteomics for Cardiac Biomarker Discovery Using Isoproterenol-Treated Nonhuman Primates
To identify new cardiac biomarkers, a quantitative proteomic analysis has been performed on serum and heart tissue proteins from three species of nonhuman primates following isoproterenol (ISO) treatment.

Comparative Analysis of Knowledge Representation and Reasoning Requirements across a Range of Life Sciences Textbooks
(Previously) we showed that embedding the knowledge representation and question-answering abilities in an electronic textbook helped to engage student interest and improve learning. A natural question that arises from this success, and this paper’s primary focus, is whether a similar approach is applicable across a range of life science textbooks.

Embedded Fiber Optic Sensors for In Situ and In-Operando Monitoring of Advanced Batteries
This paper presents initial results from these prototype cells and compares the results from internal FO signals to earlier results reported by our team on purely external configurations where the FO sensors were attached to the cell skin.

SRI’s Professional Development Program Helps Math Teachers Improvise and Learn Argumentation Skills
As the Common Core State Standards are being rolled out nationwide, mathematical argumentation—the line of reasoning that shows or explains why a mathematical result is true—has become an important skill for math teachers and students alike. To teach argumentation skills to teachers and bridge the gap between professional development (PD) and classroom practice, SRI Education’s Center…

Estimating the Vector Electric Field Using Monostatic, Multibeam Incoherent Scatter Radar Measurements
An algorithm has been developed to image the local structure in the convection electric field using multibeam incoherent scatter radar (ISR) data.
