Toward a Breathable Biomarker for Physiological Stress
We have developed preliminary laboratory data for formation of volatile aldehydes produced by oxidatation of amino acids found in ELF exposed to HOCl. Formation of HOCl, via oxidation of chloride ion, is associated with physiological stress and uniquely converts amino acids to aldehydes via the intermediate imine.

BaySci: A Partnership for Bay Area Science Education—August 2014 Evaluation Report
We examined how and to what degree science instruction changed in the classrooms of districts, schools, and individuals participating in BaySci programming. We sought evidence of changes in classroom practice, student learning and engagement, and district and school culture.

White Matter Microstructural Recovery with Abstinence and Decline with Relapse in Alcohol Dependence Interacts with Normal Ageing: A Controlled Longitudinal DTI Study
Background Alcohol dependence exacts a toll on brain white matter microstructure, which has the potential of repair with prolonged sobriety. Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) enables in-vivo quantification of tissue constituents and localisation of tracts potentially affected in alcohol dependence and its recovery. We did an extended longitudinal study of alcoholism’s trajectory of effect on selective…

ICOS-Based Chimeric Antigen Receptors Program Bipolar Th17/Th1 Cells
Here we demonstrate that redirection of primary human T cells with a CAR containing the inducible costimulator (ICOS) intracellular domain generates tumor-specific IL-17-producing effector cells that show enhanced persistence.

A Top to Bottom Evaluation of IRI 2007 within the Polar Cap
This analysis demonstrates notable differences between IRI and ionosonde NmF2 diurnal and seasonal behavior over the entire period studied, where good agreement is found during summer periods but otherwise errors in excess of 50% were prevalent, particularly during equinox periods.

Synthesis of Doxycycline-[(CD3)-C-13]
In this process, doxcycline was oxidized to the N-oxide using m-CPBA. The hydrochloride salt of the tertiary N-oxide was treated with Fe(0)/FeCl3 catalyst yielding the N-demethylated product.

PreK– 3 Teacher Instructional Practices
A key component of the McKnight Foundation’s Education and Learning (E&L) Program is supporting PreK–3 teachers to improve their literacy instruction in order to develop proficient readers.

Template-Based Circuit Understanding
We propose a template-based approach that extracts a functional description for a low-level combinational circuit by showing it to be equivalent to a reference implementation, while synthesizing an appropriate mapping of input and output signals and setting of control signals.

Association of CHRNA5-A3-B4 SNP rs2036527 with Smoking Cessation Therapy Response in African-American Smokers
We investigated the association between CHRNA5-A3-B4 and smoking abstinence. The rs2056527(A) allele was associated with lower abstinence with active pharmacotherapy, or with nicotine gum alone but not significantly with bupropion.
