Ryan Grimm: Providing virtual assessments for children with disabilities

SRI continues innovative COVID-19-required virtual assessment for young children with disabilities.

Prior to and throughout the school year, educators gather and assess information about a child’s strengths and challenges so they can plan for the kinds of services they may need to best support the student. But it can be challenging to conduct in-person assessments in rural areas, as well as for students who are immunocompromised or have other special situations. Such challenges can create delays in providing required services. So in these and other circumstances, virtual assessments can be extraordinarily valuable.

In this video, Ryan Grimm, an SRI education researcher, shares his work on a project called Innovative Technology for Early Childhood Assessment that helps provide high-quality, virtual assessments (similar to telehealth models) for young children with disabilities. His team shares free, publicly available resources to empower administrators, practitioners, and communities to provide remote assessments effectively.

“Virtual assessments offer a lifeline for many families, ensuring they can participate safely.” – Ryan Grimm
