A Zero CO2-Emitting Process for Transportation Fuels from Coal and Natural Gas Resources
Simultaneous steam reforming of natural gas and conversion of coal to syngas was achieved in a gas-blown, electrically heated, entrained-flow gasifier. Conversions > 95% for both coal and natural gas were achieved at temperatures above 1450°C with a product molar ratio of H 2:CO equal to 2.

Dead End Metabolites – Defining the Known Unknowns of the E. coli Metabolic Network
We have analysed the occurrence of dead end metabolites within the database – these are metabolites which lack the requisite reactions (either metabolic or transport) that would account for their production or consumption within the metabolic network.

Network Coding for Content-Based Intermittently Connected Emergency Networks
n this demo, we present a network architecture that exploits partial caches by utilizing network coding to deliver large files (e.g. images) to first responders. The architecture is based on a content centric network platform called ICEMAN(Information CEntric Mobile Ad-hoc Networking) and runs on Android phones.

Association of CD28 and CTLA-4 Gene Polymorphisms with Aggressive Periodontitis in Brazilians
Our hypothesis is that polymorphisms in genes that code for these molecules may be associated with periodontitis. The aim of the study was to investigate the association between +17 (T/C) CD28 and +49 (A/G) CTLA-4 gene polymorphisms and periodontitis in Brazilians.

Interactive Retinal Vessel Extraction by Integrating Vessel Tracing and Graph Search
We propose an interactive approach that enables a user to efficiently obtain near perfect vessel segmentation with a few mouse clicks. Given two seed points, the approach seeks an optimal path between them by minimizing a cost function.

Microglial Beclin 1regulates Retromer Trafficking and Phagocytosis and Is Impaired in Alzheimer’s Disease
Here we show that the autophagy protein beclin 1 is required for efficient phagocytosis in vitro and in mouse brains. Interestingly, microglia isolated from human Alzheimer’s disease (AD) brains show significantly reduced beclin 1 and retromer protein levels.

Discovering Action Idioms: Bridging the Gap between System-Level Events and Human-Level Actions
We present a sequential pattern mining approach to discovering human-level actions-action idioms – from instrumentation logs of lower-level events.
