Restoration and Recognition of Distant, Blurry Irises
Here we apply a pure digital image restoration approach to correct for optical aberrations. Image restoration was applied to both single images and image sequences. We propose both a single-frame denoising and deblurring approach, and a multiframe fusion and deblurring approach.

The Effectiveness of Online and Blended Learning: A Meta-Analysis of the Empirical Literature
Now that web-based learning has emerged as a major trend in both K–12 and higher education, the relative efficacy of online and face-to-face instruction needs to be revisited.

Cross-Platform Provenance
Since 2006, a community of two dozen research groups interested in data annotation, derivation, and provenance have met regularly “to understand the capabilities of different provenance systems and the expressiveness of their provenance representations,” and then iteratively created an Open Provenance Model (OPM) aimed at increasing the interoperability of systems.

Cautionary Note: The Thermal Decomposition of Amino Acids in the Solid State
The Arrhenius parameters governing the pyrolysis rates for 19 amino acids in the solid state presented in the paper listed as reference 1 were developed in a dynamic TGA–DSC procedure employing single heating rate techniques and appear to be untrustworthy.

Ion Gyro-Harmonic Structuring in the Stimulated Radiation Spectrum and Optical Emissions During Electron Gyro-Harmonic Heating
The first extensive systematic experimental investigations of the possibility of these spectral features for third electron gyro-harmonic heating are provided here

Almorexant Promotes Sleep and Exacerbates Cataplexy in a Murine Model of Narcolepsy
The current study was designed to evaluate the hypnotic and cataplexy-inducing efficacy of a Hcrt antagonist in an animal model with low Hcrt tone and compare the ALM efficacy profile in the disease model to that produced in wild-type (WT) control animals.

Compound Ranking Based on a New Mathematical Measure of Effectiveness Using Time Course Data from Cell-Based Assays
This article proposes a new approach to measure drug effectiveness, which allows ranking compounds according to their toxic effects on live cells.

The power of observation
Xerox has employed ethnography for many years to gain a better understanding of human behavior in naturalistic settings, and now we are applying it to parking and parking enforcement.
