Selin Capan

Education Research Associate, SRI Education

Selin Capan is an education research associate who works on several projects spanning STEM and computer science education, technology-enhanced education, and college and career pathways. Her experience includes mixed-methods research, program evaluation, and research dissemination.

At SRI, Capan contributes to the National Science Foundation (NSF) Eddie Bernice Johnson INCLUDES Coordination Hub. The NSF Eddie Bernice Johnson INCLUDES initiative is a comprehensive, national effort designed to enhance U.S. leadership in discovery and innovation by focusing on broadening participation in STEM at scale. Capan helps organize synchronous events, such as webinars and conferences, that connect NSF INCLUDES National Network members and synthesizes key insights to share across the Network and beyond. Capan also supports recruitment, survey administration, and project management for the Barr Foundation’s Engage New England Initiative, which seeks innovative solutions to support high school students who are off track to graduate. Additionally, she works on two internal research and development projects at SRI that develop AI-based tools for teachers. For these projects, she conducts interviews, designs data collection protocols, and performs qualitative analyses to inform resource development.

Before joining SRI, Capan served as a research study coordinator at Northwestern University on the Child and Mother Physical Activity Study (CAMPAS), for which she investigated the impact of parenting practices on toddler development. Her responsibilities included project management, observational video and survey data collection, qualitative data coding, and dissemination of findings.

Capan earned her MEd in Learning, Design, Innovation, and Technology from Harvard Graduate School of Education and her BA in neuroscience, with a minor in education, from Dartmouth College.
