The American Academy of Sleep Medicine highlights SRI research focused on the relationship between parental engagement and pre-teen sleep.
How does a pre-teen’s home life impact their ability to get the sleep they need?
According to new SRI research presented at the SLEEP 2025 conference, high parental engagement shows a strong association with better sleep duration. As SRI’s Marie Gombert-Labedens (the lead author of the paper and a postdoctoral fellow at SRI’s Human Sleep Research Program) told the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), “These results support the importance of social networks in sleep health and may inform future campaigns, ultimately helping to improve the health and well-being of children.”
The paper makes use of data from the larger Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study, an ambitious National Institutes of Health-funded longitudinal study of adolescent brain development. In addition to SRI, other ABCD Consortium members include leading U.S. universities, hospital systems, and research institutions.
