James Fritz to join SRI as its new Senior Vice President, Federal and Strategic Program Development

In this new role, Fritz will lead strategy and business development for SRI’s federal programs.


SRI, a global leader in research and development, announced today that James Fritz will join the Silicon Valley nonprofit on February 19 as its new Senior Vice President, Federal and Strategic Program Development.

In this new role Fritz will lead strategy and business development for our federal programs, with a particular emphasis on identifying and bringing together initiatives across SRI that can lead to significant growth opportunities and have large-scale impact for new and existing customers.

Fritz brings to SRI deep experience across a range of aerospace and commercial sectors, encompassing partnership development, operational leadership, and strategy development and implementation.

Most recently a senior advisor to the Chief Commercialization Officer of the U.S. Department of Energy, he previously led strategy development and execution for technology-based growth opportunities at Collins Aerospace and United Technologies Corporation. Prior to that, he led global operations for the United Technologies Research Center. While there, he was executive champion for a number of employee resource groups.

An active angel investor as a partner in the Clean Energy Venture Group and a member of the Angel Investor Forum, Fritz previously served on the Ventures and Incubator Advisory Board for the University of Connecticut. He was founding Chairman of the International Energy Research Centre in Cork, Ireland.

Fritz is an Associate Fellow of the American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics and has been awarded nine U.S. patents. He holds a BS in mechanical engineering and an MBA from the University of Connecticut, as well as an MS in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
