Mechanism of Action of Flufirvitide, a Peptide Inhibitor of Influenza Virus Infection
Influenza is an infectious disease typically transmitted through the air. It is responsible for seasonal epidemics affecting millions of people, and sporadic global pandemics. Influenza infection is a membrane fusion‐dependant process, occurring in the endosome of the host cell after viral binding and endocytosis. The virus‐host membrane fusion process is mediated by hemagglutinin (HA), a viral surface glycoprotein. Studies…

Automated fixture configuration for rapid manufacturing planning
In this paper, we address the problem of rapidly synthesizing a realistic fixture that will guarantee stability and immobility of a specified polyhedral work-part.

Opening the “black box”: Organizational differences between charter schools and traditional public schools
Using survey data collected from teachers in Texas, this study explores differences in school organization that contribute to the experiences of charter school and traditional public school teachers.

Review of hybrid prognostics approaches for remaining useful life prediction of engineered systems, and an application to battery life prediction
As an important aspect of prognostics, remaining useful life (RUL) prediction estimates the remaining usable life of a system, which is essential for maintenance decision making and contingency mitigation.

Gaming for a Higher Purpose: Crowdsourcing to Find Vulnerabilities in Mission-critical Software
More and more, people around the world rely on complex software systems in all areas of life—from transportation to utility grids to medical equipment. We depend on these software systems to be secure and reliable. Yet today, the way to assure bug-free software code is through formal software verification, which requires highly specialized computer scientists…

F Region Dusk Ion Temperature Spikes at the Equatorward Edge of the High-Latitude Convection Pattern
Using Poker Flat Incoherent Scatter Radar data from the International Polar Year, we observed unexpected short-lived enhancements of a few 100 K in the F region ion temperature, or “Ti spikes”, in conjunction with sharp F region plasma density drops near the dusk plasmapause.

Horizontal Parameters of Daytime Thermospheric Gravity Waves and E Region Neutral Winds over Puerto Rico
We report on the electron density perturbation amplitudes, periods (up to 60 min), horizontal and vertical wavelengths, phase speeds, and propagation directions of daytime traveling ionospheric disturbances (TIDs) from 115 to 300 km altitude using dual-beam experiments at the Arecibo Observatory (AO), Puerto Rico.
