α4β2* and α7 Nicotinic Receptors Play a Role in L-Dopa-Induced Dyskinesias; Studies Using Parkinsonian Knockout Mice
Since α4a5β2 nAChRs are also predominantly on striatal dopamine terminals, these data suggest that drugs targeting α4β2 nAChRs may reduce L-dopa-induced dyskinesias in late stage Parkinson’s disease.

AT-202, a Nociceptin Receptor Agonist, Blocks Drug- and Stress-Induced Reinstatement of Extinguished Cocaine Conditioned Place Preference
In the present study we examined the effects of AT-202 on acquisition and drug-primed or stress-induced reinstatement of cocaine CPP. These findings provide preliminary evidence that the NOP receptor agonists may be useful as pharmacotherapies to treat psychostimulant addiction and may be especially valuable in relapse prevention.

A Regression Model for Risk Difference Estimation in Population-Based Case-Control Studies Clarifies Gender Differences in Lung Cancer Risk of Smokers and Never Smokers
Additive risk models are necessary for understanding the joint effects of exposures on individual and population disease risk. Yet technical challenges have limited the consideration of additive risk models in case–control studies.

The Use and Effectiveness of a Question Exploration Routine in Secondary-Level English Language Arts Classrooms
This purpose of the study was to determine the effects of teachers using the Question Exploration Routine (QER) in regularly scheduled secondary-level English Language Arts classes to help students answer questions about the development and use of main ideas in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

Classroom Orchestration: Synthesis
The present collection of papers on orchestration highlights broad agreement that classrooms are variable and complex and that teachers have an important role in adapting materials for use in their own classrooms.

Field Ionization Characteristics of an Ion Source Array for Neutron Generators
Ion currents from single etched-wire tips operating under the same conditions are used to help understand array results. I-F characteristics of the arrays were found to follow trends similar to those of the better understood single etched-wire tip results; however, the fields achieved by the arrays are limited by electrical breakdown of the structure.

Varenicline Markedly Decreases Antipsychotic-Induced Tardive Dyskinesia in a Rodent Model
Tardive dyskinesia is a potentially irreversible drug-induced movement disorder that arises as a side effect of antipsychotic therapy. Antipsychotics form the mainstay of treatment for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and, in addition, are increasingly being prescribed for major depressive disorder, autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. There is therefore…

Calibration of Membrane Inlet Mass Spectrometric Measurements of Dissolved Gases: Differences in the Responses of Polymer and Nano-Composite Membranes to Variations in Ionic Strength
This work examines the transmission behavior of aqueous dissolved methane, nitrogen, argon and carbon dioxide through two types of membranes: a polysiloxane nano-composite (PNC) membrane and a conventional polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) membrane.

Reaching Populations Faster in Emergency Management of Disasters – Oral Drugs as Antidotes to Radiation Exposure
Without warning, a major earthquake and subsequent tsunami hit Japan in March 2011. Damage was significant at almost every level, impacting people and the environment. Shortly thereafter, a core meltdown at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant—the largest nuclear event since the Chernobyl disaster in 1986—intensified the situation. Almost immediately concern arose about the many health…

Invasion biology and the success of social collaboration networks, with application to Wikipedia
We adapt methods from the stochastic theory of invasions for which a key question is whether a propagule will grow to an established population or fail to show how monitoring early participation in a social collaboration network allows prediction of success.

Miniaturized opto-fluidic system for on-the-flow analyte characterization based on spatial modulation technique
A compact opto-fluidic detection platform for on-the-flow analyte characterization is described.
